Meet Mercer’s “Best Eats”!

Last updated: August 30, 2021

Nothing tastes quite like homemade cuisine— especially when someone else prepares it!

In the past, folks took their time in the kitchen and cooked with fresh ingredients. Our restaurants and diners still emphasize those values without emptying your wallet!

No matter your craving, you’ll find that home-cooked flavor at:

ction. Regardless of what you order, expect bold flavor with a Texas twist.

1. Brooks & Company Bar & Grill
This no-frills restaurant serves up plenty of comfort food and entertainment.

There are days when all you want is a basic cheeseburger or egg salad sandwich. Brooks & Company scratches that itch with with homestyle meals, complete with sizzling fries, tater tots and warm cornbread. You can order old-fashioned classics like fried Bologna sandwiches, too.

Brooks & Company also keeps things hopping with sports TV, live music and karaoke. Call the restaurant for upcoming events.

2. The Corner Shop
From desserts to diner classics, Bramwell’s ice-cream parlor is a nostalgic delight.

Some restaurants mimic the glamorous past. Others— like The Corner Shop— are the real McCoy. Long ago, this atmospheric eatery used to be a pharmacy; visit today, and you’ll be surrounded by charm that only comes with age.

The desserts harken back to old-fashioned pleasures, too. Order homemade ice cream by the scoop or splurge on banana splits, malts, sundaes and milkshakes. If you sit inside, a waiter in a pillbox hat will present your order in a lovely glass or tin dish.

You can also stay for lunch. Like any diner worth its salt, The Corner Shop has all the classics: burgers, sandwiches and appetizers. The vintage soda fountain works, too!

3. Taste of Memphis
Tantalize your taste buds with platters of hickory-smoked BBQ.

Smoked chicken, ribs, bourbon wings, cinnamon apples: the Taste of Memphis brings Tennessee’s culinary wealth right to your table. Try ordering a platter of pulled pork, chicken or BBQ samples. These come with slaw, beans and your choice of side dish: cinnamon apples, homemade chips, corn on the cob and more.

Other hits include hot sandwiches, baked potatoes stuffed with pork or chicken and brisket mac n’ cheese. For the final Taste-of-Memphis touch, order a chilled glass of iced tea.

4. Buffalo Trail Restaurant
Pair your wilderness retreat with quality brews and imaginative comfort food.

Buffalo Trail Restaurant may be situated in the woods, but its luxurious perks are far removed from any frontier experience. Sit indoors or grab an outdoor table beneath a covered patio, where a waterfall gushes nearby and koi swirl lazily in a pond.

You won’t have to “rough it” for dinner, either. Appetizers go from dependable favorites to pleasant surprises like peel-and-eat shrimp, garlic breadsticks and “Hatfield Cheese Fries”: steak fries garnished with shredded cheese, bacon bits and a signature jalapeno ranch sauce.

The entrees are just as varied. For one thing, there are bison burgers— made from buffalo that live on the property! You can also order pizza, pasta, salads, ribeye steak and more. As for dessert, you won’t go wrong with some peanut butter pie or New York-style cheesecake.
