Get your entertainment fix at this state-of-the-art theater

Last updated: August 30, 2021

In the Appalachian mountains, the Chuck Mathena Center stands out as a place for entertainment, education and the arts. You won’t find anything else like it in southern WV. With a nearly 1,000 seat theater, state- of-the-art audio and visual capabilities, the CMC is home for off -Broadway shows, comedies, dance, art productions, musicals and much more.

Whether it’s a road trip or an evening out after outdoor adventure, the CMC has something for everybody – young and old. Located in the center of Princeton, the venue is only a few minutes away from exit 9, off of 1-77 in southern West Virginia.  Visitors will also find a variety of hotels and restaurants near the CMC.  Dinner before a show is a must!

Ample parking, a vast lobby area, box office, coat check and rotunda art gallery are just some of the treasures of the center. Enjoy date night with the Russian National Ballet, bring the kids to Dinosaur Zoo Live or sing with country music band from Nashville.  It is like having the arts in your backyard without having to travel for days to a larger city. You won’t find any traffic jams here!

But that’s not all the center offers.  Visitors can also participate in classes as part of the Daylight Art Series. Learn a new craft, paint a picture and much more.  This is a hands-on approach for the arts! Did you know you can even learn to make pasta at the CMC?

Don’t miss your chance to visit the next show at the Chuck Mathena Center on March 25 at 7 p.m. If you like country music, this show is for you. Adairs Run is a group out of Nashville, Tenn., with roots to southern West Virginia.  Tickets are $15 and all seats are general admission.  All proceeds will go to the Princeton and Bluefield Salvation Army.

Other spring shows include Recycled Percussion,  the kid-friendly “Dinosaur Zoo Live”, the Russian National Ballet’s “Cinderella” and Nashville Bluegrass Band. Check out our calendar and keep up-to-date on all the shows at the CMC and other events happening throughout Mercer County.
