Extend camping season at these great outdoor spots
Last updated: March 30, 2023
Even though there is a chill in the air, camping never goes out of style in Mercer County. Extend the outdoor season and spend this transition – between fall and winter – at a campground. Keep on enjoying favorite activities such as roasting marshmallows by the campfire, playing board games with family and getting away from it all.
Camp Creek State Park at Mash Fork Campground has 26 trailer/tent sites, 9 sites with electrical hookup, 9 sites with water and electric hookups, and 8 sites with full hookups. There is a heated bathhouse and two accessible sites. Picnic tables, grills and fire rings are at all campsites. Wi-Fi is available at this campground, just in case you need to check a recipe or post your photos to social media. The Blue Jay Campground has 12 rustic tent sites with picnic tables, grills and fire rings.
Camp Creek was created in 1987.
The campgrounds are open all year, but with limited facilities until April 1. Reservations are needed to camp at this location.
While at Camp Creek, you can enjoy 35 miles of hiking and biking and of course, trout fishing. Take advantage of two waterfalls – Marsh Fork and Campbell – and plenty of creeks throughout the property, shelters, picnic tables and more. Horses are welcome too! One of the only state parks to feature horse/rider camp sites, there are 55 miles of horse trails.
Brush Creek Falls RV resort is perfect for families. With 52 RV sites, campers will enjoy a host of amenities and the chance to get away from it all. Visitors will also have access to Camp Creek State Park and Brush Creek Falls to check out the waterfalls. ATVS are also welcome to come ride the Hatfield-McCoy ATV trails a few miles away.
If are looking for RV spots closer to the trailhead, Buffalo Trails and the Mud Pit/Pocahontas Outfitters have limited RV spots available. Spots will accommodate trailers and ATVs. Both resorts have food, cabins and Hatfield-McCoy ATV passes.
