Take a Guided Tour of Southern West Virginia on an ATV

Last updated: August 7, 2023

Even if you don’t own an ATV, you can still experience the outdoors on the Hatfield and McCoy ATV trail in southern West Virginia.

Crazy Mountain Cycles, located right off Route 52 in Bluewell, offers rentals and features hotel accommodations for riders and their families. Within walking distance to restaurants, gas, drug and grocery stores and close to  the trails, the best part of this property is the large 13-bed room with a full kitchen and two baths. Perfect for extended families or weekend celebrations, be sure to check out the specials for Polaris rentals when you book a room. If you are bringing a machine, Crazy Mountain Cycle’s locked storage is a great place to park your ATV for the night.

Choose from the all new RZR RS1, Polaris RZR XP 1000 2 seater and 4 seater or RZR 1000 Turbo. Don’t forget to get your pass and map from an authorized Hatfield and McCoy dealer before you set out on the trails.  Or let an experienced guide show you all the trails have to offer in West Virginia.

Did you know that much of the land on the trail once belong to the railroad and coal companies? You can find many abandoned structures and small coal towns on your journey.  Coke ovens also line up on the trail in certain sections.  Coke is coal with all of its impurities removed; this process requires baking the coal in an airless furnace or oven. The resulting product is mostly pure carbon and burns very hot and is virtually smokeless. While they are not in use anymore, they are a reminder of the history of the area.

Right now, there are plenty of good weather days to ride the trails. Dress warm in the mornings and by the afternoon, shed a few layers. The fall is much anticipated time to ride the system because of the fair weather.
