A sweet tour of Mercer County

Sweeten up the rest of your summer with some of our favorite local treats! From epic milkshakes to specialty donut creations, you’ll be sure to find a spot to satisfy your sweet tooth in Mercer County. 

The RailYard

Cool off this month with an indulgent milkshake from The RailYard. The restaurant’s milkshakes all start with a base of vanilla bean ice cream and whole milk. From there, the add-ins can be as standard or over-the-top as you want. Try the namesake, The RailYard Shake (a classic Neapolitan — layered chocolate, vanilla and strawberry shake, topped with house whip), or explore the decadent craft shake options like the Cloud 9,000 (a cotton candy base with mini marshmallows, a lollipop, sprinkles, cotton candy and assorted fruit candies). Adults can enjoy an alcoholic addition to their dessert with shakes like the Ball and a Biscuit (a brown sugar chocolate base with chocolate fudge rim, bourbon balls and Hershey’s chocolate syrup). The RailYard is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturdays.

Wild Roots Coffee House

Sip on seasonal flavors at the Wild Roots Coffee House! Stop in for a refreshing Summer Breeze Cooler drink or a lemonade smoothie. Luckily, if you are still searching for a caffeinated pick-me-up, all the coffee drinks are available in iced or frozen varieties! From iced matcha lattes to mocha frappes, beat the heat in the most delicious way. Appalachian Coffee House is located in the Mercer Street Grassroots District and is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday through Saturday. 

Blue Spoon Cafe

Cookies, cakes, coffees and more — sweetness comes in many forms at The Blue Spoon Cafe. August coffee specials include the Trippie Hippie Frappuccino, Nutella Latte, Sweet Vanilla White Chocolate Cold Brew and Summer Lovin Mocha. In addition to the specialty drinks, the cafe features rotating donut flavors like Oreo cheesecake, chocolate iced and the boozy peach crown and limoncello. Other sweet treats include warm peach upside-down cake, lemon zucchini raspberry bread, strawberry lemonade bars and more! The Blue Spoon Cafe is located in Bluefield and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

Bramwell Corner Shop

The only cure to the sweltering summer nights in Mercer County is a visit to the Bramwell Corner Shop! Whether it’s a single, double or triple scoop cone — treat yourself to some yummy ice cream this month! Choose from classic flavors like chocolate and vanilla to decadent flavors like maple bacon and cherry cheesecake. No cone or sundae is complete without toppings, and The Corner Shop has plenty to pick from! In addition to cones, the restaurant also offers banana splits, sundaes and floats. The Bramwell Corner Shop is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
