HIDDEN GEMS IN MERCER COUNTY WV: LOCAL SHOPS, CAFES & UNIQUE FINDS

Mercer County is known for its famous off-road trails and iconic natural attractions, but there’s even more to explore once you get here. Take the scenic route and discover unique local businesses tucked away in our small towns throughout the county.

1. Sister’s Coffee House – Bluefield, WV

Locals all know about the breakfast and lunch menu at this familiar favorite. With limited hours during the week, Sister’s Coffee House is a gathering place for foodies and friends. If you are lucky enough to grab a table, we recommend the homemade muffins for breakfast or the chicken salad for lunch.

The cozy atmosphere — comfy chairs, art and music — makes for a relaxing experience. For hours, follow Sister’s Coffee House on Facebook.

2. Honeycomb Cafe – Bramwell, WV

Hidden away in the historic town of Bramwell, Honeycomb Cafe is a sweet spot to visit. This coffee shop and bakery serves fresh breakfast and lunch options, along with coffee, tea and a variety of baked goods.

Take creative freedom and build your own latte with flavors ranging from Irish cream to toffee crunch. Breakfast is served all day, and weekly specials keep the menu interesting. Make sure to visit on Fridays and Saturdays for fresh fried pies and donuts. For upcoming specials, follow Honeycomb Cafe’s Facebook page.

3. The Hatter’s Bookshop – Princeton, WV

Down in the Grassroots District on Princeton’s Mercer Street is a treasure trove of previously-loved books. Named one of the “Best in West Virginia” of small independent bookstores, The Hatter’s Bookshop is the cozy corner you’re looking for.

Bookish gifts mix in with current best-sellers and great books from the past. Spend an afternoon on one of their couches going down a delightful rabbit-hole of history, fiction or an owner recommendation, or take a book home for just a few dollars.

4. Sweet Pea Hill Boutique – Athens Road

A cute little boutique with great big style. Enjoy a one-of-a-kind shopping experience at Sweet Pea Hill Boutique. Situated along Athens Road, this boutique-style clothing shop for women features a wide range of styles and trends with inclusive sizing options.

The clothing racks are frequently updated to reflect current fashion trends and are based on what customers are requesting. Find your next date night outfit or favorite loungewear set at Sweet Pea Hill Boutique. Gab an iced coffee next door at Aubade Coffee for an extra shot of energy.

5. 80’s Toys of Princeton – Princeton, WV

Next time you are on Mercer Street in Princeton, visit 80’s Toys of Princeton. This unique store specializes in toys and collectibles from the ’80s, ’90s and beyond.

With many movies and television shows being rebooted, take a look at the original toys from the golden era of the 1980s. The shop has toys from iconic pop culture moments including He-Man, Cabbage Patch Kids, Teddy Ruxpin, G.I. Joe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers and more.

Plan a Local Adventure in Mercer County

These small businesses may be off the beaten path, but they’re full of character, creativity, and community spirit. Add these five spots to your next trip to Mercer County and support the local gems that make our towns truly one-of-a-kind.
