The Perfect Pies

Last updated: August 30, 2021

It’s the most delicious time of the year! Cookies, brownies, cheesecake — the holidays are full of tasty treats, and for the last few weeks, we’ve had pie on our mind. So, we wanted to share a story about a local who specializes in making perfect pies.

Some might already be familiar with B’s Honey Baking Co.’s desserts, but if you’re not, then it’s a good time to become acquainted.

Owner Jacki Bentley has been baking pies since she was a little girl — thanks to an Appalachian grandmother and a penchant for reading obsessively — but professionally for about two-and-a-half years.

“It happened accidentally, like all good things usually do, and it’s been a real gift,” she said.

Bentley started her foray into commercial baking while working at The RailYard in Bluefield. It started slowly, making a pie or two here and there for the restaurant, but soon the demand grew.

“I’m most passionate about pies and pastries,” she said. “My crusts are made from scratch and so are my pastries.”

In September, Bently began pursuing a new commercial kitchen, which she found and moved into in November. And while she’s not baking for restaurants now that she’s out on her own, she’s not slowing down in the slightest.

In fact, B’s Honey is offering a special holiday menu with more than 15 varieties of pie along with other baked goods. Pie flavors are broken up into Holiday Favorites: pecan, pumpkin, mincemeat, walnut, chess and sweet potato; B’s Honey Specialities: Maker’s Mark pecan, apology pie (made with fresh cranberries sweetened with berries and pomegranate juice), chai chess, brandy butterscotch, toasted terry’s chocolate orange and date night (a single-crust pie baked full of wine-soak dates, apricots, assorted nuts and savory brie cheese; and Classics: apple, chocolate cream, vanilla cream, butterscotch, cherry and lemon meringue. A menu can be found on B’s Honey Facebook page. Prices range from $16-25, and delivery is free in Princeton and Bluefield within a certain mileage.
