The Grinch’s Worst Ideas for Holiday Cheer

Last updated: August 30, 2021

Horrid Holidays, everyone! It’s me, your pal the Grinch, and I’m here to tell you my WORST ideas for holiday cheer in Mercer County.

Holiday of Lights
Millions of glowing lights does NOT make my spirit bright! The Holiday of Lights at Bluefield City Park features over one million lights scattered across 110+ acres of land. This driving display of twinkling lights is the largest light show in southern West Virginia, making it one of the worst ways to celebrate the season in Mercer County. You have until December 31 to see a canopy of candy canes and many more displays – if I don’t steal all the bulbs from the lights before then!

Hip Holiday Hits
If there’s one thing I hate it’s singing…and there will be plenty of it at Home for the Holidays: Hip Holiday Hits on December 13 and 15 at the Bluefield Area Arts Center. Presented by 4Pals Productions, this Christmas musical is sure to get you in the holiday spirit. There will also be a dinner before the show – if I don’t eat the roast beast first!

Local Businesses
There’s no shortage of holiday cheer to be found in Mercer County’s local businesses, too. Gross!

Appalachian Coffee House Princeton is new to Mercer County, and they’re serving up delicious drinks to keep you warm this winter. Can you believe this place? They even named a drink after me! Try The Grinch hot chocolate when you visit.

The Corner Shop in Bramwell DARES try to impersonate me?! This life size replica is nothing like the real thing! But since you’re there, might as well try their seasonal ice cream flavors. What’s the deal about pepperoni rolls? I don’t get it – but apparently Coal Country Kandies in Princeton has great ones. While you’re there, check out their Christmas themed candies, too.

I think my heart just grew three sizes from all this cheer. Maybe the holidays aren’t so bad after all…and there’s no better place to spend them than Mercer County!
