Last updated: October 20, 2021

For one day, the summer gardens of some of the most magnificent homes in historic south Bluefield will open up to the public. Through the Garden gate leads visitors through multiple gardens filled with flowers and sculptures and outdoor entertainment spaces. The evening ends with a reception.  This biannual event will be on August 18, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.  A special garden party will take place immediately after the tour at 6:00 p.m.
The following six gardens will be highlighted on the self-guided tour.
  • 1339 Liberty Street
  • 1212 College Avenue
  • 961 Edgewood Road
  • 618 Mountain View
  • 804 Edgewood Road
  • 404 Oakhurt Avenue (Garden Party will not start till 6 p.m.)

Expect to see hydrangeas, roses, perennials, ground covers, sweet bay magnolia, horn beam trees and many more. From elegant stone work to custom iron work, these gardens have surprises such as koi ponds and a Japanese waterfall garden. Traditional and exotic plants are present in many of the outdoor spaces on this tour.
Guests can begin their tour at any garden; parking is available on the street.  After the first home, guests will be given a paper guide to lead them to their next garden.  This is an event for the Bluefield Beautification Commission. For more information, call 304-325-8438.
