Pocahontas Trail Announcement!

Last updated: August 30, 2021

Good news, ATV riders! Thanks to an extended deadline, the Pocahontas trail system, part of the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System, will be open for the month of December and part of the New Year.

A statement from the Hatfield McCoy Recreation Authority states:

“The Hatfield McCoy Regional Recreation Authorities (Authority) license agreement for the use of the property encompassing the current Pocahontas trail system has been extended until January 14, 2019. The coal company (Company), who granted the agreement, was able to extend their current agreement while continuing their work with the Authority to find long-term solutions for trail expansion consistent with safety and mining development.

The Company is currently developing a significant new mining operation for Mercer and McDowell Counties, which will provide hundreds of new high paying jobs for the region. The Company and the Authority, along with state and county officials, are working closely to ensure safety for trail riders and workers while trying to develop long-term solutions beneficial to all parties. We appreciate your patience as we work through this process.”

The Pocahontas trail system will remain open until January 14, 2019. For questions and other concerns, do not hesitate to contact the CVB. We will keep you informed as more information becomes available.

There’s still plenty of time to get in some winter riding in Mercer Countystart planning your trip now!
