Home for the Holidays: Visit Mercer County

Last updated: August 30, 2021

Whether you are visiting family or spending a holiday weekend in town, we got enough Christmas spirit for a whole day!

First, grab up a few Christmas gifts for loved ones in specialty shops filled with antiques, artwork, West Virginia products and more. Enjoy downtown Christmas decorations in Princeton and Bluefield while you shop. If you are lucky, you might see a few flakes of snow!

Take a mid-morning break and warm up with a variety of delicious coffees at Geminelli’s Bistro. Relax with cups of cappuccinos, Limoncello lattes and Jasmine Blueberry tea in glass mugs. Next, grab a gift for yourself at Hatter’s Bookstore. This used bookstore features rows of classics and best-sellers. You might find yourself losing track of time

A late lunch is always merry during the month of December. Head down to the Victorian town of Bramwell for one of the best burgers around at the Corner Shop. Choose from a menu filled with homemade mac and cheese, French fries, sandwiches and more. Of course, you cannot forget the awesome milkshakes and ice cream in special holiday flavors.

After lunch, bundle up and take a stroll through this charming town. It is like walking in Hallmark Christmas movie!  Maps are available in town at both the Coal Heritage Trail Interpretation Center and the Corner Shop. Learn about the homes and how the town of Bramwell came to be Home of the Millionaires.

When the sun goes down, the Holiday of Lights shine bright in Bluefield at the city park. Drive through a breathtaking show of almost 1.3 million lights, candy-cane canopies, poinsettia arches and much more.   Then, cap off the night with a few festive and merry drinks at the RailYard or Mercer County’s only brewery, Sophisticated Hound.
