Planning a weekend somewhere new can be a bit daunting, but don’t worry! We have a few Winterplace favorites — straight from the source — to get you started.

Location

According to Tom Wagner, executive vice president of Winterplace, one of the reasons people plan trips to Winterplace is because of its convenience. The ski resort is located two minutes off of I-77, and it is just 30 minutes away from Princeton and 40 minutes from Bluefield.

Mountain Features (Beginners Welcome!)

Winterplace was voted the top place to learn to ski and snowboard in the southeast by Blue Ridge Outdoors. The resort is ideal for people just getting into winter sports. But, whether you are a beginner or an avid snow enthusiast, Winterplace has you covered. The resort offers 27 slopes, one terrain park, 10 lifts and the largest snow tubing park in West Virginia. Snow tubing is very popular for families and people unsure about skiing or snowboarding because the only skill needed is the ability to sit down.

Learn-to-Ski & Snowboard

If you have never been skiing or snowboarding before, you’re at the right resort! The Learn-to-Ski & Snowboard program at Winterplace is the perfect environment for beginners and families. Priding themselves on this tradition, the professional instructors offer an educational lesson to get you feeling comfortable with skiing or snowboarding. This 90-minute group lesson, which includes a lift ticket and equipment rental, will provide you with the skills needed to explore the rest of the mountain on your own. It can be used as a multi-visit program or as a one-time program. The unique aspect of learning to ski or snowboard at Winterplace is that they use a terrain-based learning method, which allows people to naturally progress through different snow features to reduce fear and anxiety. Lastly, these lessons are guaranteed — that means you can take them again for free if you still need help!

Once you’re good and tired from your outdoor trek, come relax in Mercer County!
