A Taste of Fall in Mercer County

Last updated: March 30, 2023

Pumpkin, apple, pecan, maple — you’ll find these and other seasonal flavors featured in a number of dishes and drinks served at restaurants and cafes across the county this season. And don’t forget about hearty soups and old-fashioned comfort food to keep you warm as the weather cools down. Here is just a small sample of spots where you can get a taste of fall:

Appalachian Coffee House

With a seasonal specialty drink menu that includes the ever-popular Pumpkin Spice Latte, Caramel Apple Spice Latte, Maple Brown Sugar Cinnamon Latte and White Maple Mocha, there’s no shortage of fall flavor here. Not a coffee drinker? Not a problem. Appalachian Coffee House also has Toasted Marshmallow Hot Chocolate, Caramel Apple Spice Chai and Pumpkin Spice Chai, among other options. Pair your drink with one of their pastries and you’ve got everything you need for a cozy morning.

Buffalo Trail Restaurant

Nothing says fall more than homemade pumpkin pie, and lucky for us, Buffalo Trail Restaurant has been serving up slices for the last few weeks. Have a piece for dessert along with one of their signature entrees. For seasonal sipping, order a caramel apple martini. Insider tip: Buffalo Trail has New York cheesecake on the regular menu that you can top with pecans, another autumnal ingredient.

David’s Downtown

Pumpkin praline bread pudding, pumpkin rolls and apple and mixed berry cobblers are just a few of the dessert specials David’s Downtown has had on their menu as of late. While their offerings do change weekly, there’s a high chance you’ll be able to catch one — or more — of these available to order for your final course. Add one of their soups, sandwiches or homestyle dishes for a satisfying lunch.

Dolly’s Diner

Hearty chili, soups, and stick-to-your-ribs daily specials like meatloaf, open faced sandwiches, spaghetti and hamburger steak, Dolly’s Diner is a good place for old-fashioned comfort food. The restaurant’s all-day breakfast is also a local favorite, and for a limited time, they’re serving up Pumpkin Spice Waffles in addition to their regular menu (we also suggest the Pecan Waffles that can be ordered by itself or with Strawberries & Cream).

Lynn’s Drive-In

For the people that enjoy ice cream at any time of the year, Lynn’s Drive-In is there for you. Pull in for a Pumpkin Pie Shake while they’ve still got it or try one of their other 40+ flavors of ice cream. For something delicious yet more on the savory side, you can’t go wrong with a hotdog with chili, red pepper steak hoagie, burger and fries or the corn nuggets.
